Primary Treatment Phase
From Start To Finish, We Walk With You On Your Journey To Recovery.
What is PHP (Partial Hospitalization Program)?
A PHP level of care, or Partial Hospitalization Program, is a type of therapeutic intervention that is designed to provide individuals with more intensive treatment than traditional outpatient services can provide but without requiring 24-hour hospitalization. It is a structured form of care that involves both psychiatric and psychological support as well as educational assistance.
The goal of a PHP level of care is to help individuals to establish personal goals and develop the skills they need in order to reach those goals while also providing emotional support. This type of care includes traditional therapy sessions as well as medical interventions such as medication management, but it also takes a holistic approach to help individuals. This means that it encourages self-care practices like exercise and healthy eating, as well as actively working to find employment opportunities for those who have completed their treatment program
How to find the right PHP program for you?
Finding the right partial hospitalization program (PHP) for you can be an overwhelming process. Understanding the different levels of care and what each one offers can help make your decision easier. When researching a PHP, look for programs that provide evidence-based treatment tailored to meet your individual needs. Additionally, research any additional services such as holistic therapies or employment assistance.
When looking at different options, ask yourself the following questions: Does the program provide evidence-based treatment? Is there a variety of services available to provide a well-rounded approach to recovery? Are there qualified professionals who are experienced in treating mental health issues? Does the center prioritize client safety and security? Do they offer aftercare services to help support long-term recovery?
In addition to researching programs, it’s important to consider whether or not you’re comfortable with the center’s location and environment. Some may find it more reassuring to attend a facility closer to home, while others may prefer locations that offer more privacy and discretion. It is also helpful to speak with staff members directly so you can get a sense of their expertise as well as their commitment to patient satisfaction.

The Structure of the PHP program
A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is an intensive, structured mental health treatment program designed to provide more intensive therapy than traditional outpatient services can offer without the need for 24-hour hospitalization. It is typically a day program that runs 5-7 days per week and includes a variety of services focused on improving overall functioning.
The structure of a PHP program will vary depending on the type of facility or provider offering it, but most programs are typically comprised of several components including
This type of therapy focuses on building therapeutic relationships with individual patients, identifying areas in which they need additional support, and developing meaningful interventions to help them make positive changes to their life.
Group therapy focuses on helping individuals work together to realize common goals and develop healthy interpersonal communication skills. Group sessions might also focus on developing coping skills, addressing emotional challenges, developing problem-solving strategies, or working through interpersonal conflicts within the group.
This type of evidence-based treatment is often used in PHP programs as it helps individuals learn how to manage intense emotions, tolerate distressful situations or relationships, regulate one’s body and mind in the present moment in order to move away from impulsive behaviors or negative self-image, and build healthy relationships with others
Medication management is provided as needed by either an advanced practice nurse or psychiatrist in order to optimize symptoms or help individuals effectively address medication side effects if they are being prescribed psychiatric medications.
Psychoeducation involves teaching individuals about psychological topics such as mental health diagnoses, medication information, mindfulness techniques, cognitive behavioral therapies (CBT), relaxation exercises, and other related topics that may be beneficial for the individual’s recovery journey.
Many PHP programs offer holistic wellness services such as yoga classes, art/music/dance classes, nutrition classes, and outdoor recreational activities like hiking or biking that help individuals manage stressors and increase overall physical health and well-being.
Some facilities provide additional educational support such as job training workshops or GED/HSE preparation courses as well as assistance in finding employment opportunities after completing the program
Making the Most of Your Time in PHP
Making the most of your time in a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is critical to ensure you get the most out of your treatment plan and make progress toward your goals. There are several things you can do to make sure you’re taking full advantage of the opportunity.
1
Some facilities provide additional educational support such as job training workshops or GED/HSE preparation courses as well as assistance in finding employment opportunities after completing the program.
2
It’s essential to attend all therapy sessions and group meetings offered through PHP. These sessions allow therapists and peers to help propel you toward success by providing accountability, support, education, and problem-solving strategies. Additionally, actively participating in these sessions will give therapists an indication of how well their interventions are working as well as provide insight into what needs to be changed or added to further improve outcomes.
3
Take advantage of all available resources during PHP such as online self-help tools, crisis management techniques, reading material, or even finding a mentor who has gone through similar experiences. These additional tools can augment the success of traditional therapy sessions by providing supplemental skills that can be used when feeling overwhelmed or having difficulty making progress toward goals.
4
Try not to isolate yourself from family, friends, or colleagues outside of therapy sessions even if it feels like the easier option sometimes. Being able to rely on people who care about you can provide great motivation when reaching for goals or just trying times when dealing with difficult emotions or situations. Letting those close enough feel comfortable discussing mental health topics with you openly also provides another platform for connection where advice may be received that wasn’t previously considered before entering PHP treatment programs.
Aftercare & Relapse Prevention
Aftercare and relapse prevention following a partial hospitalization program (PHP) are paramount to ensuring long-term success in recovery. Our team works with each client to develop an individualized aftercare plan that is tailored to their needs, goals, and lifestyle. This plan may include continued support from our staff through therapy or group sessions, referrals to additional resources like vocational training programs or community support groups, and access to medication management services.
The primary objective of aftercare and relapse prevention is to help clients identify the thoughts, behaviors, and triggers that could potentially lead them back into dangerous patterns of substance use. To do this, we work with our clients on building self-awareness skills such as identifying and managing emotions, recognizing warning signs and red flags of potential relapse, and developing healthy coping strategies for managing stressors or cravings without turning to alcohol or drugs. We also focus on building a strong recovery network of friends, family members, professionals, and peers in recovery programs; this support system can be essential in helping individuals stay motivated and accountable during post-treatment recovery.
We also encourage our clients to take advantage of ongoing education opportunities such as recovery coaching classes or seminars designed to further enhance their knowledge about addiction and sobriety. We believe that every person’s road to recovery is unique; by providing comprehensive aftercare services we ensure that our clients have the best chance of experiencing lasting success in their sobriety journey.
