Choosing the right treatment program for substance abuse is a critical step toward lasting recovery. With so many different treatment options available, it can be challenging to determine which program is right for you or your loved one. In this blog, we will discuss choosing the right treatment program for substance abuse and provide tips on making an informed decision.

Assessing Your Needs

The first step in choosing the right treatment program for substance abuse is to assess your needs. This includes considering your addiction’s severity, overall health, and co-occurring mental health disorders.

partial hospitalization program may be the best option if you have a severe addiction and require intensive support. An outpatient program may be a better fit if you have a milder addiction and can manage your recovery while living at home.

It is also essential to consider any co-occurring mental health disorders, such as anxiety or depression. Many people with substance abuse disorders also have underlying mental health conditions that require treatment. If you have a co-occurring disorder, choosing a treatment program that addresses both your substance abuse and mental health needs is essential.

Treatment Approach

Different treatment programs use different approaches to address substance abuse. Choosing a program that aligns with your beliefs and values is essential.

At Able to Change Recovery, we believe that one of the most important functions of our alcohol rehab and drug rehab program is the care planning; it is the individual’s road map to recovery. The individual, person-center, interdisciplinary care plan is a practical, understandable tool that the individual, his or her family, and our team of clinicians utilize to steer the course throughout the journey of recovery. It is the focal point of each session with the individual and includes personally defined goals along with realistic objectives that address the issues and causes of one’s addiction.

Partial Day Program

Our Partial day treatment is where a client will typically begin their treatment episode. During this phase, clients will begin to receive the tools needed to move on to the next level of care, with a licensed counselor and case manager that they will meet with weekly, attend group therapy and develop a relapse prevention plan, complete a treatment plan and begin working on rebuilding their lives. They will also develop a support system within the recovery community and begin looking for employment while also having the structured environment that is needed for early recovery.

This program is 6 days a week, 5 to 6 hours per day for a total of 36 hours per week at Able to Change’s facility in San Juan Capistrano, CA. The length of PHP will depend on the severity of your addiction and varies from person to person. In general, PHPs usually run for 2-4 weeks, but it can be more or less depending on your situation. This gives our client’s the time needed to begin to discover what goals they want to achieve and gives the clinical team the time to work with them to achieve these goals.

Intensive Outpatient Program

At Able to Change, we offer a flexible Intensive Outpatient Program schedule including morning, daytime and evening time options. This is usually 3 hours a day for 5 to 3 days a week. We realize that every person is different, so our Intensive Outpatient Program is designed to meet your unique needs. The length of the IOP will depend on the severity of your addiction and any co-occurring mental health problems. In general, IOPs usually run for 8 weeks, but it can be more or less depending on your situation.

Finding the Right Level of Addiction Treatment

Choosing the right addiction treatment program can feel overwhelming, especially when every person’s recovery needs are different. Factors such as the severity of substance use, mental health concerns, physical health, support systems, and daily responsibilities all play an important role in determining the most effective level of care.

Structured treatment programs such as Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) can provide personalized support while helping individuals build healthy coping skills, relapse prevention strategies, and long-term recovery plans. These programs often include individual therapy, group counseling, psychiatric support, case management, medication-assisted treatment when appropriate, and ongoing recovery guidance tailored to each person’s situation.

Recovery is not one-size-fits-all, and finding the right treatment approach can make a meaningful difference in long-term success. With the right support system, evidence-based care, and personalized treatment plan, lasting recovery is possible. Reach out, we can help.
