A Sober Living Environment During Treatment
A Sober Living Environment During Treatment
Our Extended Care with Supportive Housing and sober living program provides clients with a sober, stable, and recovery-focused living environment while they participate in clinical treatment for mental health and substance use disorders. Sober living and recovery housing are designed to help clients build consistency, accountability, and independence in a safe, professionally supported setting.
Because we treat both substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions, we refer to our sober living component as supportive housing. This optional level of care is primarily intended for clients who may be unhoused or who need additional structure and support while participating in treatment at our San Juan Capistrano offices.
Our recovery housing and sober living program allows clients to focus fully on recovery without the distractions, instability, or triggers that may exist in their previous environment. Clients receive access to transportation, emotional support, case management, peer accountability, and coordinated care while continuing in their Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) or Intensive Outpatient Rehab Program (IOP).
Extended care with supportive housing provides clients with a sober, structured living environment combined with ongoing clinical treatment and recovery support. Unlike independent sober living homes that may only provide housing and accountability, our program is integrated directly into the clinical treatment process.
Clients residing in supportive housing continue participating in evidence-based therapeutic services throughout the week while living alongside peers who are also committed to recovery and personal growth.
This environment helps individuals:
For many individuals, transitioning directly from active addiction, psychiatric instability, or unsafe living conditions back into independent living can feel overwhelming. Supportive housing creates a bridge between intensive treatment and long-term independence.

What makes our supportive housing different from many Orange County sober living options is the level of coordinated care and hands-on support clients receive throughout treatment.
Our supportive housing program offers 24/7 support within a clinically coordinated recovery environment. Clients receive ongoing support from an integrated care team that may include psychiatrists, therapists, case managers, and Care Coordinators who collaborate regularly to ensure each client’s individualized treatment needs are consistently addressed throughout the recovery process.
Each supportive housing home is staffed by two Care Coordinators employed by ATCR, who serve as house managers and provide emotional support, mentorship, transportation assistance, and case management guidance throughout the recovery process.
This continuous support system helps clients feel safe, connected, and accountable as they navigate the challenges of early recovery and mental health stabilization.

By providing transportation and daily support services, clients can remain focused on treatment participation, emotional healing, and long-term recovery goals.
Structure and accountability are important components of successful recovery. Our supportive housing homes maintain clear expectations that help create a respectful, sober, and recovery-focused environment.
Residents are expected to help maintain the cleanliness and organization of the home while practicing personal responsibility and respectful communal living.
These expectations are not intended to be punitive. Instead, they are designed to help clients rebuild structure, stability, and healthy habits during treatment.
Treatment may be covered at a fraction of the typical out-of-pocket cost.
As an in-network provider with most major insurance plans, Able to Change Recovery offers treatment that's more accessible than typical out-of-network rehabs. Many clients pay only their plan's deductible and copay for residential, PHP, IOP, and extended care programs.

Research consistently shows that stable housing and structured support can significantly improve recovery outcomes for individuals with substance use disorder and mental health issues. Recovery is not only about stopping substance use or reducing symptoms. It is also about creating an environment where healthy behaviors, emotional growth, and stability can realistically develop.
Many individuals entering treatment face challenges such as:
Supportive housing helps reduce these barriers while reinforcing the coping skills, communication strategies, and emotional regulation techniques learned in therapy.
For individuals with co-occurring disorders, this continuity of care can play a critical role in preventing relapse, psychiatric decompensation, hospitalization, and treatment disengagement.
Recovery is often most successful when treatment, housing support, and ongoing accountability work together. Our supportive housing program helps clients continue building momentum as they move through different levels of care and gradually transition toward greater independence.
Incorporating an integrated approach allows people to live in an environment while still receiving professional support and guidance.
